HOW TO REPLACE A BROKEN WINDOW PANE

Wearing eye protection and gloves, remove all of the glass from the window.

Next, remove all of the old putty using a scraper.

Save all of the metal points in the frame that come out and set aside.

Measure the window pane horizontally and diagonally and then subtract a sixteenth of an inch. Write down your measurments and have the glass pane cut at a hardware store.

Using a ball of putty roll it in your hands until if becomes a long string and press it firmly into the window frame.

Place the glass window pane into the frame until there are no air pockets form in the putty.

Insert the metal points back onto the frame about six inches apart.

Place putty around the window pane on the outside and use a putty knife to bevel it until it matches your other window panes.

Once the putty dries, prime the fresh putty with a coat of exterior oil primer. Once the primer dries, paint to match.
